Many women dread the coming winter season because it means cold weather and dry skin. Unless you live in a tropical place, then it’s summer all year-round. But just because the winter is near, that doesn’t mean you have to be scared of it. Just be prepared. The number one key to having smooth hydrated skin during winter is to moisturize it. Moisturize it daily and even 2-3 times a day.
Let’s jump into some other helpful tips to keep your skin feeling great during winter!
Number 1. Face Wash, Body Wash, and Shampoo.
What are you using on your face, your body, and your hair? Look at the ingredients of your products. You want to try to avoid or use ingredients that have a low amount of sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, and ammonium lauryl sulfate. Although they can have some good benefits, they do dry out your skin and hair. These ingredients are typically suggested for people who have excessively oily skin, to balance it out.
Number 2. Your diet.
Be sure during the winter months to be consuming extra amounts of water and adding in healthy fats like salmon, almonds, olive oil, and avocado to your diet. Other supplements like fish oil are great to take with your vitamins, but please consult a doctor first. These ingredients have a great amount of omega-3 fatty acids which are extremely beneficial to your health. Omega-3 does not only help your skin look and feel great but it also helps to balance your mood, protects you against memory loss, reduces the risk of heart disease, and eases joint pain and other skin irritations.
Number 3. Moisturize.
After getting out of the shower, still, keep your skin a little damp and apply moisturizer. Your pores will be opened after the shower and the dampness will help the moisturizer lock right into your skin. A great moisturizer that is very affordable is CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. Every time you wash your hands, your face, or your body, you should always moisturize and double up during winter. Don’t forget your sunscreen, too! Even during winter, the sun is still powerful.
Number 4. Skin Care Routine.
You should have your staple day-to-day skincare routine and add in things here and there when your skin calls for it. But during the winter (and summer) you should adjust your routine. Adding a nighttime cream is great for extra moisture. The winter is a good time to lay off the exfoliator and only do it when it’s absolutely necessary.
Number 5. Environmental Factors.
A great and easy way to help improve your skin over winter is to swap your cotton pillowcase out for a silk or satin one. Using this kind of pillowcase, allows your skin and hair to breathe while you sleep. Your hair will get smoother and your skin won’t be as prone to those pesky breakouts. Another thing to try is a humidifier. Some steam helps to add moisture to the air, especially when it’s freezing outside.
Trying these tips will help keep your skin soft, smooth, and supple this winter!
