Fall Fashion Trends
Hold on to your handbags, because these trends off-the-runway this year look as if the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s made a comeback appearance. After COVID, this feels like the first “fall” in two years. Cities are putting together their holiday festivities, the air is starting to feel crisp again, we’re booking trips to see family. The fashion world has changed. The corporate pantsuit and pencil skirt style you usually see in department stores have been replaced with upscale loungewear and cozy cashmere.
Let’s step into the twilight zone of what fashion experts are saying are this year’s fall fashion trends.
Number 1: Skintight loungewear
We are not seeing the typical cotton sweatpants and oversized sweaters. Now we are seeing a trend of skin-loving, curvy hugging matching loungewear pieces. Something you can layer up as temperatures drop, cute enough to wear when on the go, and comfy enough to slink around your house all day and maybe take a catnap.
These pieces have become very popular with some print on them, from Prada, Burberry, and Target, you can find cute floral or animal print form-fitting loungewear wherever you look.
Number 2: Skirtsuit is the new Pantsuit
No, you’re not imagining the cast from Clueless walking around everywhere, this is the new pantsuit. From Instagram Models to the Real Housewives of Dallas, these cute two pieces are making their way to every woman’s closet no matter what age they are.
Many people think this style came from Clueless, but really, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is the one who introduced the world to this concept. Remember her infamous tweed jacket and skirt? Well, she found her way back, only this time, we made it plaid.
This is a great trend to keep in your closet because you can add some cute tights, boots, and a long coat, and you’ll have yourself a very flirty chic fall look. And the jacket, you can dress that up or dress it down and wear it with almost everything.
Number 3: Bright lights and knitwear
This may be one of the biggest flashbacks on this list. NEON. Bright colors are making a comeback for the cool weather. Don’t mistake this for getting rid of the neutral tones, this just adds a little spunk to your wardrobe.
Sweaters, cardigans, scarves, and more, get back in touch with your ‘80s self and find a style that fits you.
Number 4: Stripes and Prints
Beetlejuice? No, it’s just another flashback. Stripes used to be looked at as a bad style choice or more nautical. Now, stripes are the perfect accessory to break up your outfit. From turtleneck dresses to cute fitted sweaters, you truly can wear stripes all year-’round.
Another fun trend is patterns and patchwork on your clothes. You heard me, get the iron out and add some cute patches to your denim jacket.
This is a trend that when worn tastefully can be the perfect subtle flare.
Number 5: Oversized and Mesmerized
Hello, ‘90s dad at Disney World. From bomber jackets to windbreakers, we’re oversizing it this fall. This is a great trend to look into, especially if you live or will travel to cold areas this season. It’s the perfect add-on for a layered look and something cozy you can wear on the plane or on a train.
Throw this on with a pair of leather Spanx and you’ve got a-rockin’ outfit for brunch or happy hour drinks with the girls.
Now we’ve seen the off-the-runway trends for this season, but these are pieces that will never go out out style and are a must-have for every wardrobe.
Always be sure to bring these colors to the front of your closet from September - January. Neutrals like cream, tan, brown, black, white, and gray will always be used, not just in the fall/winter, but you can use them all year.
Fall in love with you this season and go expand your wardrobe, you’ve waited too long!
